Campaign Setup:
When you first enter your self-serve home page you will see a button labeled “Add New Campaign”. By clicking on this button you can start the step-by-step process of creating and setting up an advertising campaign.
Step 1: Campaign Details
Campaign Name: The campaign name is generally the product or service that will be advertised. It is recommended that you give it a name that can easily be recognized by both yourself and our admin that approves it.
Start Date: The start date must be at least 1 business day ahead of the current date in order to give Pennyweb enough time to approve the campaign.
End Date: The end date can be any day after the Start Date. It is recommended to set the end date to correspond with any specific dates that might be mentioned in the advertisement. For example, if the advertisement is a special sale on your website you would not want the end date in the Campaign setup to go past the sale dates you have setup on your website.
*AdDynamix Recommendation: We recommend that the campaign end date does not extend over one month. Depending on the impression levels bought we advise our advertisers to set the campaign dates at no greater than one month. For small impression buys generally one week is a sufficient amount of time, all the way to one month for the larger packages.
Campaign Type: There are 3 major ad units available to choose from in your advertising campaign.
- Banner ads- These ad units are 468x60 pixels in size and are the most common ad units seen on the Internet. They are generally shown on the top section of most web pages hence are able to catch the eye of the user fairly quickly.
- Skyscraper ads- These ad units are 120x600 pixels in size and are growing in popularity because of their size and the amount of space they can cover on a webpage. Skyscrapers are generally located on the right or left hand side of web pages and grab the attention of the user by being right in their line of site.
- Pop-under ads- These ad units are 720x300 pixels in size and are currently the most effective and most popular form of advertising on the Internet right now. The Pop-unders are less intrusive that their sibling Pop-ups and are very effective in getting the users attention and sending them to your site. The Click-Through rates are the highest of any of the major forms of advertising.
Quantity of Impressions:
This field is where you would select the number of impressions you would like to purchase. The volumes range from small test quantities 10,000 impressions all the way up to 350,000 impressions.
As a general rule of thumb, if you are advertising for the first time a mid-range volume represents the best value.
If the only purpose of you setting up a campaign is to test a creative and “try us out” then a smaller buy within a short amount of time would be ideal.
If you are somewhat familiar with online advertising or are eager to have traffic to your site dramatically increase then you can purchase our largest impression buys over a 2 week to one-month period. We do not recommend extending campaign dates past one month.
Step 2: Targeting
Target Categories: The categories available to select from represent the major channels on the web itself. This process is very straightforward and simple. You have the ability to select as many categories as you would like to target to or as few as you like. This decision is based mainly on the type of product/service you are advertising. For non-specific products/services that may appeal to everyone checking the “Select All” box is the best solution.
For specific ads, picking the category or categories you think best represents your product/service or the type of users you are looking for will generally deliver the best results.
* As a reminder you can always change the Channel targeting as well as any other kind of targeting while a campaign is live. All you have to do is pause the campaign, click on the campaign name and edit the categories. Then resume the campaign, doing this will help you test out various targeting scenarios to see which works best.
Step 3: Other Targets
States: In this field you can target your ads to only be displayed to consumers in those states. The Pennyweb Self-Serve uses a sophisticated highly accurate geographic targeting technology to display ads to only the consumers that you want in the states that you selected.
You can select as many states as you want or only one. By holding down the CTRL key you can select as many states as you want.
MSA: MSAs are the major metropolitan areas of the United States and its territories. By targeting to an MSA an advertiser can cater their ads to specific cities and areas around that city. For example, a small chain electronics store with locations in Southern California can target their ads to the metropolitan regions of the area like Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Diego and its outlying cities as well as areas just outside the geographic reach to expand their customer base.
This is a very powerful tool for the small to medium sized business that want to extend their reach into certain cities or increase their corporate recognition within their own cities.
In this field, holding down the CTRL key will allow you to select as many MSAs as you would like.
OS: As an advertiser you can target your ads to users who are using certain Operating Systems like Windows or Macintosh and so forth. In general it is best to select all the OS unless you product is computer specific. For example, if your product is a software program or computer peripheral and it works on Windows XP only then you can select that OS and only receive impressions for users running that OS, which will greatly improve your advertising results.
Holding down the CTRL key in this field will also allow you to select multiple OSs'.
Step 4: Confirm Campaign Details
The Campaign Details page is the summary of what you have done so far in the campaign creation process. If there are any edits that need to be made to the campaign up to this point then you can click on the Edit link and return to the step you would like to edit.
Once you view the Campaign Details page and every thing is, as you want it then by clicking on the Build Creative button the Ad Creator is launched.
Ad Creator:
In the first section of the Ad Creator you begin by selecting from two choices: Create an ad, or Upload My Own Ad.
Create An Ad: By selecting “Create An Ad” you begin the process of creating the ad from scratch using the tools provided to you by the Self-Serve.
Ad Dimension: This option is already selected for you. After clicking on “Select” you are taken to the Select Template options.
Select Template: Here you can chose from a variety of different ad templates to use as your background. Choosing the right template to fit your product/service that is being advertised will greatly affect how the ad performs. After creating an ad you do have the ability to build multiple creatives and try each one out during the campaign buy.
Once you select the template and click on “Save” the next step is to ad text and graphics to the template.
Ad Creation:
Ad your own Image: Here you can insert an image on top of the template. When you select the Insert Image button the Image library window opens. The image library will allow you to upload the images that you would like to use in your ad as well as store future images that you may use in other ads. The image you insert can be placed in various positions based on the selections provided in the pull down menu. Once the “Insert Image” button is clicked the image is inserted into the ad template that you had selected.
Text Options: Under this field you can input the text you want to appear on the ad itself. There are three text boxes for you to input your ad information. The first to can contain whatever you would like, but remember to type in something to the point and use words that will attract a potential customers.
The third box is for the “Call to Action” text. A good old-fashioned example is “Click Here”. It should contain a phrase that draws the potential customer to the ad and gets them to click on it.
Font Selection: In this section of the ad creator you may select the style of font you would like to use in your ad.
Text Size: In this menu you can select the text size. One important aspect of this tool is that you do not make the text to large. Making the text too large will result in it being cut-off in the ad itself. By clicking on "Preview Ad " you can see how it will look. To make a large font word fit you can use the "Shift (Pixel) " editor located next to "Position " pull-down menu to adjust the text. See the description for "Shift (in Pixels) " for a better understanding of its function.
Position: This menu allows you to position the text how you best see fit. If you select the same position for two or more lines of text they will overlap. You must use the "Shift (in Pixels) " menu to adjust them. By entering numbers into the fields with the directional arrows you can move the text in that direction by the number of pixels you have specified. After each change of the number you should click on Preview Ad to see what the changes look like. After a couple of attempts it should become easier to see how the numbers move the text.
Initially, a move of 10 pixels or so should show up as a big move depending on the ad unit selected. Positioning of the text is best understood by experimenting with it.
Color: This menu option allows you to chose the color of the text that you entered. Generally choosing a contrasting background color works best in making the ad stand out and get a users attention.
Animate: This option will make the selected text flash. This allows you to grab a user's attention when they are browsing through our network. However, we recommend that not all the text flashes because this can become too distracting for the users.
Build Creative:
This section enables you too Name your ad. As well as select the Target URL.
Name of Ad: The Name of the ad is similar to the title in that it is how you recognize it in the Self-serve and in the case of it being a Pop-under ad it is the name displayed on the explorer bar of the Pop window.
Target URL: This is the link to the webpage that your advertisement will direct potential customers to when they click on the ad. It is important that this link be relevant to the ad creative and directs the user to the appropriate page on your site.
Alternate Name: The Alternate name is the name that appears when the mouse pointer is rolled over onto the ad itself. Normally this will be a name similar to the Name of Ad already inputted and is named for the specific product/service.
Build More Creatives:
This option allows you too create more ads for the current campaign. If you select “No” you can always build new creatives by clicking the Creatives Icon on the main page of the self-serve and adding new creatives.
Campaign Summary and Payment Page:
The final page of the campaign setup is the summary of your campaign and the creatives. At this point you can review all the options you have selected and the creatives.
At the bottom is the Paypal logo that will enable you to pay for the campaign in order to get it setup into the Pennyweb Network.
If there is a change that you may need to make before purchasing, you can click on the Home link and on that page you will see the campaign you have setup. By clicking on the campaign name you can access the edit campaign features.
But remember the campaign will not start until it is paid for, this is reflected by the “Buy Now” icon that will be visible under the Actions field for that specific campaign. Once paid for that icon will disappear.
Edit Campaign:
By clicking on the specific campaign name itself from the main page, as long as the campaign is in the setup or live phase, you can edit nearly all the Campaign details with the exception of the
Pause a Campaign:
Campaigns can be paused in order to make adjustments to them. By selecting the specific campaign and selecting “pause” from the pull-down menu you can edit the Campaign details of each live campaign.
Edit Creative:
By selecting the Creatives Icon under the actions column you can build new creative for an existing campaign as well as edit old creative. Only the target URL is editable if a campaign is already been approved to go live.
Also you can create an entirely new creative for a campaign at any time. Once the new creative is completed you can enable that one to run and disable the previous one. However, the creative will not go live until Pennyweb approves it, which takes up to one business day to process.
